bit the bullet to a small degree.
OK, did you read what I wrote in my original post?
you can get the xpi file and retain it locally. initiate installing the add-on in seamonkey. it will dl the xpi file and request you restart seamonkey to complete the install.
When I visit the download page
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/screengrab-fix-version/versio...
with my seamonkey web browser I cannot find any download link to the xpi files. I see only big green buttons with the message "Only with Firefox
I just did that. There's a ton of versions linked, e.g.:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/722227/type:attachment/scr...
Do you see these links in seamonkey web browser? Which version?
Yep. Sadly a rather dusty version which I've locked down with UMatrix and more quite nicely (some would say I'm paranoid[1] ;) Which is why I got a rather bleak "black on grey with blue links and that's it"-version of the page ;) Moving the mouse over the links, I easily found the direct link to the actual .xpi ;) Oh, mompl... Got an almost current 2.49.er version as well. Hm. Some stuff of my copied profile makes it barf and dump core. (I guess I should check that or start with a new profile) ;) Ok, for this check though, safe-mode suffices and works. Ahh, I see, in default safe-mode, I get what you described (i.e. the "Only with FF .." Buttons)... Yep, that's it: Just disable JS and you'll get a nice green "Download Now" button beside each version, with the one beside 0.99.12 linking to (if you hover over it/copy the link), *tada*: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/722227/screengrab_fix_vers... And just ignore those that don't get that version 2.x does not work with seamonkey (as exemplified by the missing "sm" in the link for https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/733683/screengrab_fix_vers... Actually, it's all due to this dain-bramage (with JS enabled): ====

Only with Firefox ~ Get Firefox Now! Download Anyway

==== As you can see, the actual link to the .xpi is still there at the end, which is what one gets without JS, but that is replaced by that FF stuff if JS is enabled. Bloody idjit effers at mozilla. I HATE the FF UI! [Note: I've not found _ONE_ other modern GUI browser besides SM to have an acceptable UI, FF is actually somewhat useable of sorts if you're in a pinch.] Seamonkey with Prefbar, UMatrix, Scriptish (aka GreaseMonkey / UserMonkey) ruled! Sadly, Prefbar was not ported. It's soooo convenient to just add a checkbox to prefbar for e.g. JS, CSS, broken SSL/TLS ciphers for broken sites, or dropdowns for language, UA and window-size... and whatever else you might want to toggle/change in about:config and more. ONCE AGAIN: Only enable (whitelist) JS and stuff _IF YOU REALLY HAVE TO_... If you'd followed that maxime, we'd not have had this thread ;) -dnh [1] ok, I also wildcard-block certain domains via the local dnsmasq. farcebook, giggle (doubleclick, analytics, 1e100.net) and some other trackers used on sites I frequent? NXDOMAIN! *hrhrhr* And my blocklist (of those worst defenders and those that I encounter more than once) is (thanks to wildcarding) just 146 lines ATM. -- The word "sucked" conveys more passion by _far_ than can possibly be worth feeling over anything related to Harry Potter.
