Nobody really explicitly mentioned that 'locate' *is* using a file database, or index, if you will, normally created once a day. So, in the cases when a user is looking for recently created files, 'locate' will be of no use. -----Original Message----- From: Alexandr Malusek [mailto:Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se] Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2003 11:58 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] How do you find files? You can use locate. It is part of the findutils-locate package on the SuSE CDs. You will have to run a periodic updatedb command as root (which takes a little while) but the locate will then work with any user and is quite fast.
Well, if he has a lot of time then he can just wait since cron runs updatedb automatically (daily by default). -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
