It is detected.
Good
I get this output
from ls:
linux:/home/tim # ls -la /media
The non existence of a directory there does not imply that the drive is not detected. In fact, as SuSE 9.3 uses a diferent automount method, active by default, the mount directory is created on the fly with the same name as the label of the CD/DVD.
Actually a directory is listed: linux:~ # ls -la /media total 1 drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 160 2005-07-21 20:03 . drwxr-xr-x 26 root root 608 2005-07-20 22:26 .. drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2005-07-18 20:30 cdrecorder drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2005-07-18 20:30 dvdram drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2005-07-21 17:35 floppy drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2005-07-21 20:03 SU910_005
but this output if i try and cd:
linux:/home/tim # cd dvdram bash: cd: dvdram: No such file or directory
Obviously; that is your home directory you are trying at...
Oooops - apologies
When i look at desktop -> my Computer there is no icon for
the dvd-ram drive
Try with a DVD inside.
It has the SuSE 9.1 DVD in it - i can cd into /media/dvdram but it shows as empty - no icon is visible in My Computer
And try with the command "lshal".
Have done this and is not listed TIA Tim
