Greetings!
When ever I FTP files from the internet over my DSL-connected Linux router box to my Windows machine, depending on the server, I can get a transfer rate of 120k/sec.
kilobits or kilobytes? 120kilobytes/sec is about what I get so I assume kilobytes. When I FTP files from my Windows machine to one of my
Linux boxes (running SuSE 6.3) the maximum speeds peaks at 35k/sec. If I'm not mistaken, 35k/sec is the maximum that can be reached with a 56k modem.
Again, kilobits or kilobytes and how are you measuring? 35 kilobytes for 56k is pretty much impossible, 35 kilobits would be a touch on the slow end so I assume kilobits. 35 kilobits is way too slow for 10MBps ethernet and 35 kilobytes/sec is still very slow for underutilized ethernet. Since none of my linux boxes are directly connected to the internet
and I'm the only user, how I can I modify this restriction to allow faster transfers between my machines?
We need more info. Are you talking about a home LAN? There is no restriction on either my Linux or OpenBSD box. I'm running at 100Mbps half-duplex and get about 6MBps via ftp. Greg
