Indeed. After taking early retirement my father decided to qualify "in the trades". He'd always been a DIY type :-) One thing I learnt from him was that many street in cities in the UK had three-phase feeds with individual houses getting one phase and the neutral, and the next house the next phase and the neutral. This was a sort of balancing act.
