Her is a simple one liner I put in a file called grpm to search the rpm
database:

rpm -qa|grep -i $*

I called my file grpm for grep from the rpm database (make sure the file
is excutable). Anytime I want to search the database nad see if I have a
package installed I run

grpm <partial string of the search>

ex.  grpm abi would return any package that has abi in it.
