I don't know too many real live brits, but the ones I see on TV seem to be using metric measurements to a very high degree. I do know a large quantity of Americans though, and they all use Imperial measurements, so it seems that while the Empire still stands, it's shifted over a bit :)

This is true. But they're not quite as insane as the Swedes used to be in the 60s and before, when they drove on the wrong side of the road with left hand steering. The passenger seat used to be called the death seat, because the driver (on the left) would try to overtake basically blind, and the passenger seat would be the part of the car that took the hit.
