Have you checked out the cost of the toner cartridges and their availability?
Yes, I've checked it even before narrowing my list. I checked local prices of new and "recycled" cartridges (third party). I also checked the capacity - number of pages printed per cartridge. Also, I have some unofficial info from local services on how often these devices are got repaired.
I only missed the info on Linux (Leap) compatibility/support. :) Looking at HP page that Carlos pointed me to, it seems that both are OK with Linux. At least equally OK.
Good point.
One of the links I found at the HP site listed the exact part numbers of the toner cartridge the printer would accept. And they are expensive.
Looking again at the "HP LaserJet Pro MFP M280nw" printer, a 203X cartridge (black) is 116.90€ at HP site ((3200 pages). The 203A cyan cartridge is 92.90€ (1300 pages; the 203X cyan makes 2500 pages).
I've noticed that printed page capacity of m452 is approximately twice better comparing to mfp280. This makes it cheaper in longer time expenses. No scanning/copying though. Here where I live, the two are selling at same prices, so initial cost is equal. Later, mfc280 will spend twice more cartridges comparing to m452. And cartridges for them do not differ much in price,
Here, official prices for cartridges for m452 are more expensive, about double for the colour ones: 174,91€ 410X black (~6.500 pages) 234,90€ 410X cyan (~5.000 pages) 234,90€ 410X yellow 234,90€ 410X magenta The 410A makes 2300 pages. Those would cost similarly as the MFP cartridges, I guess.
The site warns that the printer has a security feature that blocks usage of third party cartridges that do not have a certain chip. Security feature, they say. Also "anti-fraud technology".
I am aware of that.
I'm unsure my older HP printer has that, I do not remember reading about that feature in that clear text. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)
