Hi how's it going. Here's my problem, I used to use RedHat 5.1 and had DHCP installed on it. Now I'm using SuSE 5.3 and I'm not sure how to set it up. When I put in my static IP in Yast setup I can't get it to see the network. When I has RedHat 5.1 I just put the info in and selected DHCP for boot and installed the DHCP rpm and it would get on the network. (RedHat was nice that way) Here is some info for example, I don't feel comfortable giving my real IP gate and such.
address: 100.101.30.136 netmask: 255.255.255.240 Gateway: 100.101.30.129 host name: beavis.butthead.net MAC address: 00 a0 24 f1 75 fc
Now, I have this address reserved in the DHCP server on the network. How do I set this up on SUSE. This is all the info that I was given. I have set this up in Yast with my ethernet card. My ethernet card is a 3com 509b. How do I get it back on the network?
You need to install the dhcp client package, which can be downloaded from our ftp-Server: <A HREF="ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse_update/suse53/n1/dhclient.rpm</A">ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse_update/suse53/n1/dhclient.rpm</A> Install this package using YaST or RPM (rpm -Uh dhclient.rpm), have a look at the documentation and activate it /etc/rc.config (DHCLIENT="yes").
