I got a Xerox Phaser 8550 DP about a year ago. It is fantastic. Duplex, color, networking, Real Adobe postscript. They support unix, however the only thing you need is the ppd file that it is in their site or you can install the one for win2K which are the same. All function work. Uses solid ink, price is a little cheaper than color laser at least when I priced it about a year ago. The other interesting features is that ink does not go through like laser or worst inkjets so you can print color duplex in a light weight paper. It is very fast. It handles envelopes pretty well. So I am sold to it. -=terry(Denver)=- On Mon, 2007-03-19 at 09:58 -0700, russbucket wrote:

Its a postscript print and all I did was download the driver (PPD) from Xerox and put it in the correct directory. When I upgraded to OpenSUSE 10.2 in Jan. 07 no changes were necessary. The print quality has been good, especially PDF files created with Scribus. They know have a newer model (6180 I think) that prints faster.
Only negative I found is its a little noisy. I can live with that after my experiences with my Epson and HP all in one printers.
I've a HP LaserJet 5MP since 1995. A perfect bw simplex machine. But the times demand colour prints in both faces of the pages.
Can anyone give me recommendations for colour laser printers? Of course they have to be Postscript ones.
