Ok, 2.4.2 comes with winbond-840 precompiled but couldn't find pci-scan I got the card running I still wonder why I can't compile it myself. It would be nice if YaST1 included winbond-840 as a choice for network card drivers. mk

Hello,
I am using SuSE 7.1, just downloaded and installed of ftp. Updated to all the latest packages. I got a winbond 840 network card.
I used this card since SuSE 5.3 and always compiled the driver myself. Since a while this driver requires pci-scan.o
SuSE 7.1 comes with pci-scan.o in the 2.2.18 kernel. I am not sure if it is there with the 2.4.2 kernel; can't see module in the net directory.
I downloaded winbond-840.c and pci-scan.h and kern_compat.h and pci-scan.c. (www.beowulf.org) I boot into 2.2.18 kernel. It errors on the compile of winbond driver.
I booted into 2.4.2 and try to compile and it errors again on compile of winbond and pci-scan driver.
This happened on my box and a friend's box with 7.1.
Just started running XFree4 so I haven't figured out the 3 button mouse thing yet. Can't give output therefore. But there is a problem with SuSE 7.1 and winbond and pci-scan driver. They won't compile. Love to hear from somebody who got them compiled on a fresh box.
mk
