Hi,
Now that I got my Linux box to dial up, I would like to ask one of the most important newbie questions. How do I automatically set my Fvwm2 backgrounds. I used 'xv -root /location/image.gif' to do this by hand, but I cant seem to make the FvwmBacker work for me. I copied and pasted the sample script right out of the man page, removed the line with the image, and saved the file as .fvwm2rc. When I restarted my windows manager, I lost my tool bar and the ability to move my windows around, as well as some other functionality. Does any one know a simple way to accomplish this?

If you cut and pasted a script and called it .fvwm2rc it sounds like you may have overwritten the .fvwm2rc that was there before that contained all your regular settings for the fvwm modules, etc that normally started. I would regenerate a .fvwm2rc file using the windows manager configuration option that allows you to regenerate a .fvwm2rc file in your home directory and try adding the following lines within the part of .fvwm2rc which starts things. My excerpt of this area is like this: AddToFunc InitFunction + "I" Module FvwmBanner # + "I" Module FvwmButtons + "I" Exec xterm -sb -title "XTerm" -geometry +150+85 + "I" Exec tkdesk + "I" Exec xeyes -geometry 50x50+0+650 + "I" Module FvwmPager 0 0 # initialization specific to fvwm2 + "I" Exec xosview -geometry 175x135-10-10 # end function InitFunction You would add to the .fvwm2rc file something like: + "I" Module FvwmBacker Then you would add the following in the .fvwm2rc file after the init section I presume. # Set Up Backgrounds for different desktops. *FvwmBackerDesk 0 -solid steelblue *FvwmBackerDesk 1 -solid midnightblue *FvwmBackerDesk 2 -solid yellow *FvwmBackerDesk 3 Exec xpmroot /usr/include/X11/pixmaps/background2.xpm It looks like to me that you would change the colors to the extreme right of each FvwmBackerDesk for the color you want or image or whatever. Please note I have not used this module before. I perused the man page for FvwmBacker only. The path that includes teh xpmroot command appears to point at a specific path and folder. You may want to verify that that is correct for SuSE. -- --Michael Perry-- mperry@basin.com -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
