It would be interesting if a similar command for the method zypper uses could be done. Previously, the command was aria2c. I don't see that one anymore. So I do not know if zypper is still using it.
I think(!) zypper uses curl, but it should not make a difference. Anyway, when wget works fine, your port 80 traffic is not being influenced externally. You could try running a tcpdump on port 80 on a machine while you run zypper to verify it's using http downloads. Which mirror does zypper use?
