Bien, primero esto: rcalsasound start rcalsasound status y ver que pasa; si no va, reporta los errores (dmesg). Si funciona, enconces: chkconfig alsasound Debería responder "alsasound on". Debería responder "alsasound on". Si no es así, entonces:
chkconfig alsasound on chkconfig alsasound

Raro. Restart lo que hace es primero pararlo y luego arrancarlo.

Quitalo y vuelvelo a activar, con off y luego on, por si las moscas.
Esto es lo unico que aparece al buscar errores y warnings en el dmeg.

Puede no aparecer como error, busca cualquier cosa relacionado con el sonido. Hola "el que la sigue la consigue" pero sin saber muy bien lo que hago. He eliminado el /etc/modprobe.conf he podido configurar la tarjeta de sonido en el Control Center y ahora parece que funciona el sonido pero sin el fichero /etc/modprobe.conf ¿ que hace este fichero ? ¿ deberia tenerlo ? un saludo / Eduardo Carlos E. Hola de nuevo ¿ como se desinstala la tarjeta de sonido por comando ? estoy comparando mis 2 instalaciones, la actualizada desde 9.3 en la que no funciona el sonido, y la nueva en la que si. En el "Sound - Control Center" deberia aparecer Number Card Model 0 82801BA/BAM AC'97 pero aparecen 2 entradas Number Card Model Sound card Not configured 82801BA/BAM AC'97 y no puedo eliminarlas para ver si se reinstalan correctamente. un saludo / Eduardo Carlos E. Quitalo y vuelvelo a activar, con off y luego on, por si las moscas.

Puede no aparecer como error, busca cualquier cosa relacionado con el sonido.
El registro durante el arranque se guarda en /var/log/boot.msg; mira también en /var/log/messages durante los mismos instantes, a ver si se saca porqué el sonido no ha arrancado.
