Les cuento colegas, segui al pie de la letra unos man para hacer funcionar mi scaner a puerto paraleo umax 2000p pero no hay caso el dispositivo no es reconocido cuando ejecuto el comando:
scanimage -L (No hay ningún dispositivo...)
Probe la configuración del puerto paralelo con:

...Es eso correcto? cambié en la BIOS de la PC a EPP y 0x378. Esta correcta esa información que me arroja el comando? me entra la duda por lo que sale [PCSPP, TRISTATE]. CUAL PUEDE SER EL PROBLEMA DE QUE NO ME RECONOZCA EL SCANER, PUEDE SER ALGUNA OPCION A NIVEL DE KERNEL QUE HAYA QUE TOCAR???

CER> -- CER> Saludos CER> Carlos Robinson Gracias Carlos, pienso seriamente que el problem puede estar en alguna de las opciones del Kernel, me voy a mentalizar para recompilar e ir probando por descarte la eventual solución al problema del Scanner. Nota: esto que te sale a tí; parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [PCSPP,TRISTATE,EPP], me debería salir a mi también, pero no muestra el último protocolo que es EPP que según los man debe estar seleccionado en la BIOS cosa que hice, por lo tanto también debería pensar que es un problema de; que esta realmente informando la BIOS!. Tengo una DELL GX270 Pentium IV de 2.8 GHZ y 512 MB Ram con una Tarjeta Nvidia Geforce 400 MX....:-( no es un computador despreciable, pues se trata de una última adquisición en el trabajo aquí en el mercado Chileno.
