Hallo Liste! Hab mir grade vom SuSE-FTP den Default-Kernel-RPM gezogen und will den jetzt via Yast installieren. Hat das schon jemand gemacht?? Gibts danach irgendwelche nennenswerten Schwierigkeiten mit den installierten Programmen?? Muss ich irgendwas besonderes beachten oder macht das Yast alle Konfigurationen automatisch? Daniel

Wenn Du etwas Ahnung hast, kannst Du Kernel 2.6 installieren. Wenn Du weniger Ahnung hast oder ein System hast, das definitiv funktionstuechtig sein muss, lass es besser bleiben - Umstellung von Kernel 2.4 auf Kernel 2.6 ist schon ein wenig groesser als innerhalb der 2.4er Serie. Es gibt mit Sicherheit einiges zu beachten, z.B. muss eine /etc/modprobe.conf kreiert werden, es muss das sysfs-Dateisystem eingehaengt werden, es muss evtl. die modprobe.conf angepasst werden bzgl. der Aenderung von Module-Namen oder Module-Optionen (vor allem ALSA duerfte da betroffen sein), es muss der Bootloader angepasst werden, ide-scsi gibt es nicht mehr, d.h. die Links von /dev/cdrecorder, dev/dvdrecorder usw. muessen evtl. angepasst werden, Teile des /proc/Filesystems haben sich geaendert, Dinge wie xosview werden daher wahrscheinlich nicht mehr funktionieren, lm_sensors benutzt jetzt das neuen sysfs-Filesystem, und sicher habe ich hier noch einiges vergessen. Das RPM einfach per YaST installieren wird nicht gehen, denn a) ist schon ein Kernel installiert und RPM wird sich weigern, einen zweiten zu installieren und/oder b) der alte Kernel wird durch den neuen ersetzt. Beides ist nicht das, was Du moechtest. Wie es trotz allem geht und noch vieles mehr steht in http://www.thomashertweck.de/kernel26.html. Aber WARNUNG: installiere Kernel 2.6 nur, wenn Du weisst, was Du tust... Das ist nichts, um mal eben ein bisschen damit rumzuspielen. CU, Thomson
