On my linux (SuSE 5.1) I can only see the ansi codes, but no colors, e.g.: ...^[[32;40mSS^[[30;47m.... Do I have to set an ANSI terminal type before login ?

This is sometimes a problem on linux systems. If you are getting improperly displayed ansi/ascii, simply enter 'setfont' from the command line. You can add the argument 'setfont' to /sbin/init.d/random after 'esac' and before 'exit 0' to fix this. ---------- the
case of my /etc/issue it's ansi colors. I've just always played around
