nVIDIA GeForce2 MX and Suse 7.0
Dears, I just installed Suse 7.0 on my computer and have - as others - problems = with my graphics card, a nVIDIA with processor GeForce2 MX and bus AGP. = I read the documentation online (mostly on the Suse web-site). Because = of the increased use of this card it seems to me that a complete = installation procedure should be clearly stated for the new - and great = - release 7.0. I understand that I need to use (i) XFree86 4.0.x, (ii) a driver for the = card which is not provided with the distribution. Q1. What XFree86 version am I using after the (default with office) = installation of Suse 7.0? How can I check the version. Does Linux switch = between two different version depending on which sax one is using? Q2. Is XFree86 4.0 already part of the 7.0 distribution or do I need to = install XFree86 4.0.x as explain at = ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/X/XFree86/XFree86-4.0.1-SuSE/README ? = If so, which files are needed (the README-file states "the appropriate = files")? Q3. I understand that I need to install the package for the NVIDIA = driver as explain in the README-file. Q4. The installation generated a XF86config file (in the /etc directory) = considering (default as graphics card is not supported) that I am = working with a vga, ... (manual section 8.3.3). How shall I modify this = XF86config file? Manually? Using sax2 in my (poor) X environment? Thank you in anticipation. ---Philippe <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META content="MSHTML 5.00.2614.3500" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Dears,I just installed Suse 7.0 on my computer and have - as others - problems =with my graphics card, a nVIDIA with processor GeForce2 MX and bus AGP. =I read the documentation online (mostly on the Suse web-site). Dear pm, as you might know this is a german speaking mailing list. We prefer emails in german because not all subscribers are able to understand english. In addition, please do not send any HTML emails to this list -- not all mail user agents (MUA) are able to display such emails. There exists an english speaking SuSE mailing list (suse-linux-e@suse.com) -- perhaps you should subscribe there.... Nevertheless, here is a short hint how you can find a solution for your problem: On Thu, 02 Nov 2000, pm wrote:
[Installation of Geforce2 MX graphics card]
There exists a detailed instruction how to install a Geforce2 MX graphics card on SuSE Linux 7.0. Unfortunately (at least for you), it is a german text file :-) You can find this instruction on the following web site: http://www.linuxroot.de/. Perhaps you are able to read it, otherwise you should ask someone to translate this text into english. With best regards, Thomson -- Dipl.-Geophys.
