Probleme mit LiLO / Grub
Hallo. Habe mir eine ISO von SuSE 9.1 heruntergeladen. Auf dem 1. PC lief die Installation einwandfrei inkl. Grub. Beim 2. PC erscheint beim booten die Fehlermeldung: "Grub Grub" oder nur "Grub". Habe dann bei der Installation auf LiLo umgestellt und Lilo meldet dann: "LI 99 99 99 99..". Wenn ich über die CD die HD boote dann läuft das SuSE. Kann mir jemand weiterhelfen?

Es fehlt Info, z.B. die Ausgabe von "fdisk -l" (deine Partitionierung) und Angaben zum Inhalt Deiner /etc/lilo.conf (evtl. gesetzte Passwoerter in lilo.conf vor dem Posten rausnehmen). Die Angabe "LI 99" zeigt, dass der second stage von lilo nicht geladen werden konnte, das map File. Vermutlich wurde lilo nicht korrekt installiert oder es gibt unterschiedliche Meinung zwischem dem BIOS und lilo was die Geometrie der Festplatte angeht. CU, Th.
Habe das Problem doch selbst lösen können. [ . . . .] hallo Du willst Deine Festplatte in den "Standard CMOS setup" Deiner BIOS nicht wirklich von "Auto" auf manual "Lba" einstellen. Das allein löst Dein Problem nicht. Weil das Thema etwas umfangreicher ist, solltest Du Dir mal einen Spaziergang in den SDB von "Suse.de" gönnen. Suche anfangs nach "Lba". Der Rest ergibt sich von selbst. Gruß Rolf

Jetzt weiß ich nicht so genau, ob ich Deine Neugier befriedigen soll oder ob du mich prüfen willst ;-) Nun denne . . . ., Es ist grundsätzlich egal, ob er es tut oder nicht tut. Wenn die Auto Detection danach nicht funzt bzw die BIOS nicht mitspielen (können), nutzt auch Auto nichts. Grund kann ein zu altes BIOS sein, Art der Festplatte u.a.m. Auch ein falsches Breitbandkabel kann Schuld sein, wenn das Laufwerk nicht richtig erkannt wird. (In den SDB steht noch viel mehr - anderes als hier gesagt) Gruß Rolf

Das verstehe ich jetzt aber nicht... Die Platte wurde ja im BIOS erkannt, nur hatte eben Lilo eine andere Auffassung von der Plattengeometrie als das BIOS, und das fuehrte zum Konflikt. Dass es diesen Konflikt geben kann, ist nicht so selten, da es ja prinzipiell mehrere Moeglichkeiten gibt, eine Position auf einer Festplatte zu spezifizieren. CU, Th.

Hatte bei einem Freund mal das gleiche Problem, allerdings mit SuSE 8.2... dann habe ich bei ihm die 9.1 installiert, und es ging. Gib mal bitte ein paar infos über dein system? Hast du zufällig ein nagelneues Mainboard drin? Oder die Partition, auf die Grub installiert wurde, hatte die vielleicht ntfs? So war das bei meinem Freund zumindest, ich tippe ja auf den nforce-Chipsatz. Gruß Sören
