OT: Mac PowerPC mit PPC Installation
Hallo, ich habe hier einen Mac PowerPC 8100/80av mit MacOS 7.5, 4 GB HDD in zwei Partitionen und 80 MB RAM. Ich moechte eigentlich das System auf MacOS 8.6 (wegen der Netzwerkfaehigkeit) updaten und Linux-PPC auf die zweite Partition laden. Ich schaffe aber nicht einmal ein update des MacOS. Das System bootet zwar von der System CD und das System ROM wird geladen, d.h. ich kann mit gebooteter CD mit System 8.6 arbeiten, aber das update funktioniert nicht. Wenn ich System installieren anklicke, kommt nur die sinngemaesse Meldung, dass der Rechner nicht geeignet sei. laut README und jeder Menge Online Suche ist das Modell 8100/80 aber uneeingeschraenkt geeignet. Eine NuBus Karte ist nicht vorhanden. Es gibt ja hier auch zwei oder drei Mac Spezies, hat einer von euch einen Hinweis ? -Dieter

Hallo Dieter, da fallen mir zwei Sachen ein: 1. Ist dein 8.6-Upgrade überhaupt für 7.5 geeignet, oder setzt es 8.x voraus? 2. Kann es sein, daß du eine Upgradeversion für einen bestimmten Rechner hast? Seit 8.x gibt es typenabhängige Upgrades, rein aus kopierschutztechnischen Maßnahmen. Mit einem Upgrade für Cube kannst du keinen G3 Upgraden, als Beispiel. Der guckt nach, was für´n Modell das ist. (Ansonsten sind die CDs wohl identisch..., ein dreifach Hoch auf OpenSource...) Booten lassen sich diese CDs trotzdem, damit sie als Rettungssystem fungieren können, aber eben nicht installieren. Gruß, Ratti

Dank an alle fuer die Hinweise. Es werden wohl zwei Probleme sein, ich muss wohl einen Zwischenschritt mit MacOS-8.0 einlegen und mir eine Hack (soll es angeblich geben) fuer den PowerPC besorgen, da die Installationsdisketten von einem G3 sind. -Dieter -- Dieter Kluenter Brute Force Imaging

Empfehlung: Vorher die Platte mit dem Orginal-DiskUtil von Apple neu Partitionieren. Ausserdem glaube ich nicht, daß man von 7.5 auf 8.6 updaten kann. Da wirst Du mindestens 8.0 oder 8.1 vorher installieren müssen. Gruß Peter

Der 8100 steht auf der "nicht unterstützt" Liste bei SuSE, Du wirst MKLinux brauchen: http://www.mklinux.org um ein Linux auf der Kiste zum laufen zu kriegen. Für das MacOS Update hast Du ja schon diverse Hinweise gekriegt.
