Hallo zusammen, ich habe ein Problem mit einer Netzwerkkarte. Karte AlliedTelesyn AT2700FTX mit pcnet Chipsatz (AM79C972). SuSE Linux 9.2 Kernel 2.6.8 default und 2.6.11 Vanilla. Unter beiden Kerneln lässt sich die Karte nicht ansprechen - sie wird als pcnet32 erkannt und das entsprechende Modul geladen. Die Karte ist O.K. habe ich getauscht. Unter Kernel 2.4.x mit SuSE 9.0 wurde ebenfalls der pcnet32 geladen und die Karte hat wunderbar funktioniert. Der Hersteller bietet auf seine Homepage einen Treiber für 2.4. Kernel an (atnic32) der sich leider nicht kompilieren lässt (kommt eine ganze Latte Fehlermeldungen), der mitgelieferte und fertig kompilierte Treiber auf CD (auch für 2.4) scheint auch nicht zu funktionieren - oder ich mache beim einbinden des Moduls etwas falsch. Frage: Kann man generell das Modul für 2.4.x Kernel auch für 2.6.x verwenden? Wenn ja, wie wird dieses eingebunden? ...und überhaupt wieso funktioniert dieses verfl*@*# pcnet32 Modul beim 2.6.x Kernel nicht mehr? *rhetorischfragend* Kann man eigentlich schmerzfrei mit der SuSE 9.2 auf einen 2.4er Kernel zurück? Ich habe hier auch etliche von diesen Karten und keine läuft mit dem Treiber aus dem Vanilla (oder SuSE) Kernel. Haben sie auch noch nie getan (Auch nicht mit Kernel 2.4) Ich habe sie damals (SuSE 8.1) mit dem Hersteller-Treiber sporadisch ans Laufen gebracht. Ich musste aber immer mit eth-tool nachhelfen. Selbst unter Windows machen die Karten erhebliche Probleme, so dass ich fast alle gegen billigste RTL8139 Karten ausgetauscht habe. Fazit: die Mühe lohnt sich überhaupt nicht. Für unsere LWL-Anschlüsse haben wir mittlerweile 4-Port Switches mit Fiber-Uplink besorgt - das ist total schmerzfrei, günstig und man kann jede TP-NIC benutzen, die von Linux unterstützt wird. Ach: Kupfer-TP-Kabel sind auch noch günstiger als LWL-Kabel (davon braucht man maximal 1) Mathias

Beim 2.4er Kernel kann ich das jetzt nicht bestätigen lief auf Anhieb mit dem pcnet32 Modul, was mich auch erstaunte weil überall zu lesen war das der atnic zu verwenden ist - das ganz war aber auch nur kurz im Testbetrieb somit kann ich über zuverlässigkeit nichts sagen.

Würde die Karte ja tauschen - nur auf die schnelle war hier keine neue Fibre Karte zu bekommen - ich lass das ganze jetzt über den onboard Controller laufen. Bei der Geschichte gehts auch nicht um den Preis o.ä. die LWL Anbindung sollte wegen EM-Feldern sein. Trotzdem danke, immerhin weiß ich jetzt das die Teile Schr... sind :-( das mit den Problemen unter Windows kann ich übrigens bestätigen. Welche Karte wäre denn zu empfehlen - 100 Mbit/s LWL? Da hab ich leider keine Ahnung, Ich hab mal was von teuren Intel-Karten gehört... Ich suche noch eine GBit-LWL Karte mit Linux-Unterstützung für meinen Server. Wenn du was findest, kannst du ja bescheid sagen :-) Mathias
