Hi, dies ist ein bißchen OT, da nicht direkt mir Linux in Verbindung stehend. Gestern kam mir mal wieder in den Sinn, doch endlich mein CDROM von hdb nach hdc zu bewegen, damit hda nicht am selben Strang wie CDROM hängt. Vor einiger Zeit hatte ich dies schon erfolglos versucht und wollte nun endlich mal das Problem analysieren. Also alle IDE-Anschlußkabel her, die ich habe und aussortiert. Das, was ich bei früheren Versuchen benutzt hatte, hatte einen kleinen Knick in einer Leitung (es ist recht eng in meinem Miditower), also ab in den Gelben Sack und ein besser aussehendes Kabel verwenden. CDROM -> hdc und Master gejumpert. ==> System startet.... Kein CDROM gefunden und Festplatte(!) wi rd vom BIOS nicht mehr immer erkannt und es kann *nicht* von dieser gebootet werden (SYSTEM DISK FAILURE ...)??? Bißchen rumprobiert mit Strom und so, alles i.O. Überlegt... -> CDROM am Secondary auf Slave gejumpert. ==> siehe da: es funktioniert!!! BIOS findet Festplatte und CDROM ordentlich, kann von beidem booten, Linux und NT können ohne Probleme auf das CDROM zugreifen -> also alles o.K., nur daß das CDROM jetzt hdd ist, ohne daß davor ein hdc existieren würde (wußte gar nicht daß das geht). Hat schon mal jemand so was ähnliches beobachtet? Ist dies eher ein Problem mit meinem Board oder ist der Master-Jumper des CDROMs defekt (vermute ich fast)/falsch verlötet (;-)) ? Na ja, da's funktioniert sicher nicht so wichtig, aber die Ursache würde mich schon interessieren. mußtest Du bei der alten Konfiguration (Platte Master, CDROM Slave und beide am Primary Port) die Platte irgendwie jumpern. Bei einigen Platten muß man den Jumper anders stellen, je nachdem ob ein Slave Gerät vorhanden ist oder nicht. Ich habe aber es schon mehrmals funktionierend zusammengebastelt (CDROM als Master auf dem Secondary Port). Das mit dem hdd ist richtig. Primary Master -> /dev/hda Primary Slave -> /dev/hdb Secondary Master -> /dev/hdc Secondary Slave -> /dev/hdd usw. egal ob am Port was dranhängt oder nicht. Hat meine Platte, allerdings war der Slave-Present nicht gejumpert, da in der Doku steht, man solle den nur setzen, falls der Slave nicht gefunden wird -- und das war bei mir nicht der Fall.

Das mit dem hdd ist richtig.
Ja, das ist schon klar, daß das CDROM als Slave am Secondary hdd wird -- was mir nicht klar war: * ich wußte nicht, daß man einen Slave ohne Master betreiben kann (irgendwie paradox) * ich weiß nicht, *warum* mein CDROM nicht als Master laufen will. Irgendwie ist das ganze komisch... (aber es läuft und läuft und ...) Bei mir war es andersrum: Nachdem ich die neue Platte hatte, lief es nur, wenn das CDROM hdc war und die Platte hdd und nicht umgekehrt.
