Ich hatte ein ähnliches Problem. Schicke mir mal die /etc/lilo.conf.
Bei mir war es so, dass dort der Eintrag "lba32" entweder überzählig war oder fehlte.
Schau' bei dir mal nach.
Dann schau auch noch mal im BIOS nach, in welchem Modus sich deine Festplatte befindet (NORMAL, LARGE oder LBA).

in der lilo.conf habe ich den Eintrag "lba32"! im BIOS (ist ein alter HP Vectra) steht nur etwas von "LBA mode control" und das ist "enabled" das lba32 in der lilo.conf habe ich auch schon mal deaktiviert (#), aber hat auch nichts gebracht. Das BIOS hat aber auch die Platte nicht korrekt erkannt. Ist eine 20,5GB Platte. Im BIOS steht nur etwas um 8,irgendwas GB. Problem? Linux hatz die Grösse bei der Installation korrekt wiedergegeben! Aufgeteilt habe ich die Platte in eine boot- (hda1), eine Swap- (hda2) und eine root-Partition (hda3). Der LILO wurde in den MBR installiert. Hier mal der Inhalt der lilo.conf: #################### boot = /dev/hda vga = normal read-only menu-scheme = Wg:kw:Wg:Wg lba32 <-- auch schonmal mit # auskommentiert. Ging auch nicht! prompt timeout = 80 message = /boot/message image = /boot/vmlinuz label = linux root = /dev/hda3 append = "enableapic" image = /boot/vmlinut.suse label = failsafe root = /dev/hda3 append = "disableapic ide=nodma apm=off" optional image = /boot/memtest.bin label = memtest86 #################### Hat jemand noch eine Idee? Hast du nach dem auskommentieren auch im BIOS "LBA mode control" ausgeschaltet? Schau mal, ob "boot = /dev/hda1" (Zeile 1 lilo.conf) funktioniert. Grüße, Christian -- Facts are stubborn, but statistics are more pliable.
Hallo Marcus, ich hatte vor ganz langer Zeit (?) das gleiche Problem. Soweit ich mich erinnern kann, hatte ich den MBR mittels fdisk/mbr unter DOS eingerichtet, danach von der Inst-Disk gebootet, mit yast1 den Kernel neu installiert und zum Schluss lilo auf mbr installiert. Falls du den/einen Standard-Kernel hast, kannst du das ja mal ausprobieren. Viel Erfolg Peter -- "What do computers and air-conditioned rooms have in common? Do never open Windows!" PeeGee 8-?

hallo, meines Wissen gibt es ein Problem mit älteren bios, die nur platten bis 8 GB erkennen und verwalten können. Ich hatte dieses Problem schon einmal mit einem pentium-board. hans
