[opensuse-translation] Different number of strings for each language
Hi, if you look to translation trunk toplist you realize that there are different number in the Total column. Eg. Czech translations have only 33281 strings, while Japanese translations has 33309. What causes the difference? http://i18n.opensuse.org/stats/trunk/toplist.php Thanks, Jan Papež (honyczek)-- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-translation+owner@opensuse.org
Hi, Jan. This is caused by translators (e.g. how much they care about staying in sync with original pot). POT files are irregularly updated, so as PO files - so sometimes they get out of sync and total number of strings differ. You can see that six files in lcn for Czech language are marked with yellow background, which means "Merge required" (Karl updated slideshow.pot today, so it will be seven tomorrow). There are fifteen languages on Vertaal system, which are merged automagically, so others are meant to do it by hand. Question to all: do you want all languages to be merged automagically? Or prefer to do it manually? Share your opinion, please! --- Regards, Minton 2013/1/29 Jan Papež (honyczek) <honyczek-mailing@email.cz>:

Auto merge for all languages should be fine. At least, from the french translation team point of view, there is no reason to be out of sync with POT files. Guillaume

Same for the Dutch translation team, although I do have my own script for the merge. -- fr.gr. Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-translation+owner@opensuse.org

Hi, I don't know how to merge POT files right way. Could you, Karl, please merge them? Should I know how to merge it? Is it possible to schedule automatic merge? Jan

This is caused by translators (e.g. how much they care about staying in sync with original pot). Jan, I added Czech to Vertaal, so it can be handled automatically. If you want to be contacted when updates occurs, create a Vertaal account (www.vertaal.com.ar) and send me your userid to add you in the Czech team. Automatically no. If I'm translating a file and there is an automatic update, then there is a conflict when I want to upload the .po file I have with the .po file in the server. At least those teams that use Vertaal do not need automatic updates, we can handle them with vertaal when and as needed without conflicts. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Just use msgmerge tool to update your translated PO file from updated PO file (or from POT). Guillaume
