It's a path to home directory (usually /home/username, but it is configurable). So any admin tool can ask to "Enter home path for new user" or "Are you sure you want to change this user's home path?" 2013/6/1 Ys <musicsuse@gmx.com>:

AFAIK, absolutely the same. Home directory can be either local (/home/username) or remote (smb-server://homes/username), so the only difference is that in latter case the path includes a server ID, transforming to URL 2013/6/1 Ys <musicsuse@gmx.com>:
