[opensuse-translation] Translation files for kde devicenotifier and other

Hi all, when you plug a removable device, device notifier pop ups and allows user to choose the action to perform. For instance, for a pendrive, you can Open with File Manager, Download Photos with Gwenview or Download Photos with digiKam.
Now, my question is: what are the translation files involved in these choices? As you can see in this screenshot (http://img4.imageshack.us/i/file1c.jpg/), some strings are correctly translated in Italian, while others are still in English.
However, as far as I know, the strings are translated upstream as well as in update-desktop-files files from berlios' lcn repository.
So, how can I check whether correct translation is used?

If I grep it in lcn, yast and webyast, I find a single occurrence of such string in lcn/po/update-desktop-files-kde.it.po. The translation is here from the beginning of 2009 and it is also contained in /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/desktop_translations.mo. So, why is it not used? Another translated (but not used) string is about webpin: in YaST2 (qt), when you move your mouse over "Package search (webpin)" you obtain the description "Search for software in online repositories ". We do not have a method (automatic) to verify all that.

No, it is in the lcn/update-desktop-files-kde.pot but I have not cited it previously. Anyway, the current situation is, for the pot file: msgctxt "Name(digikam-opencamera.desktop)" msgid "Download Photos with digiKam" msgstr "" In lcn/it/update-desktop-files-kde.it.po there is: msgctxt "Name(digikam-opencamera.desktop)" msgid "Download Photos with digiKam" msgstr "Scarica foto con digiKam" and in desktop_translations.mo there is: msgid "Name(digikam-opencamera.desktop): Download Photos with digiKam" msgstr "Scarica foto con digiKam" So everything seems to be ok, but translation is not used.

Right. In this situation, if the internal date of the pot file is old (POT-Creation-Date), it may well be a bad file. Something went wrong this translation round. I fear that what hapened with webyast hapened with other files - and I only checked webyasst because that is what I translated. A method of verification is by using the source repo and checking the pot files inside. Make a backup, then run the makefile target that generates the pot file, and compare strings. If the msgid are different, you have proof of failure. Perhaps somebody in charge of the buildservice could create something that creates those pots in time and pushes them to us. No, it is "POT-Creation-Date: 2011-02-11 10:20+0000\n" in both .po and .pot files.

But according to the gettext doc, it should be equivalent since strings following msgid are concatenated and only chars inside "" care (if I have understood correctly the last part of http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/gettext.html#PO-Files). Do you know how to verify the translations from command line? I tried using gettext (i.e., gettext "GenericName(webpin.desktop): Search for software in online repositories "), but it always returns the string I use as parameter.
