[opensuse-translation] Updated gnome-packagekit.pot
I am sorry to do this but I had to check in an updated gnome-packagekit.pot file today. There were some last minute changes that really needed to go in. There was a memory leak introduced in already accepted code that was concatenating strings together via strdup_printf and returning them from a function that was supposed to return const pointers so they were never freed. In order to fix this some strings had to redone (git commit cd466f - fix last python commit else we leak memory). And there were evidently some strings left that were missed and not marked for translation (git commit 408167 - mark some strings as translatable). the problem is NOT that single update, the problem is the continuos merge.. i understand that changes may happens, but i think that NO RESPECT for translators exist... i can see any day a new merge that add fuzzy and untranslated... as i told i understand that change happens, but please! we translate for free in free time, and in one of last merging karl asked to fixed changes in few hours.. Well, I expected "suffering" changes when I volunteered for translating, I knew what this was about, more or less. I don't mind very much having to change and change again already translated files, and having last minute changes. What I do mind is being hurried up, and without advance notice. We are no professionals translators, we are not sitting wating for new files... we have other things to do. At the very least, if we are told days in advance that "could we please review some last hour changes very fast on Friday morning", perhaps then some team member can allocate time and do it. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. It is the same in other distro. My cousin is a translator of Ubuntu and he told me that it was exactly the same! So, it is a developper problem, not a distro problem. I'm not sure where the hurry part comes from actually. Karl's message was most likely misunderstood, he just wanted to know which teams are not finished on friday and which are - because seriously: many translators translate the moment the file is merged, no idea how they do it. It may have to do with time zones. And Scott explained the reason why there is no way around his last minute change pretty technically. And believe me, we will not release 11.1 without you have a day or more for translating such last minute things. Otherwise we'd move such a fix to an online update. And with every other change I'm seeing in svn log it's simply bug fixes for previously untranslatable strings. Teams that find the time to update it, will get the fix in. Teams that don't, will see no change to previous state. Beside that, I'm aware that not all developers are taking the same responsiblity as Scott has shown and I'm very sorry for that. Probably missunderstood. He posted at half past eight saying he'd like the translation by 13:00, or else drop a line - I read the notice well after that hour. As it is, some of the files in my languages have not been done yet, the translators have not even noticed. I might have to take over if they don't notice.

I understand that, I have no complains with those things - but you also have to be aware that we can't hurry up much.

You have to expect some changes, but this is my fourth release as translation coordinator, and it's by far the most messy process I've seen so far. I think the printer yast module has litterally had hundreds of string changes after string freeze. We have wasted valuable time translating YaST-modules that were later removed from trunk. After translation freeze (at least I understood this was on november 7th) gnome-packagekit suddenly had ~100 new strings, now, after doing a ton of work translating it, and getting the translations upstream, there are another new 25 strings because of "bugfixing". After being in the distro for 2 years or so, yast-gtk now suddenly needs a couple of _huge_ help texts - waaay after all freezes - and I'm sure they'll soon be fuzzy again when the typos are discovered, what a joy it'll be to find a couple of miniscule changes in a 30 line string (can't wait for the -- previous, diff-thingy feature to be used in openSUSE POs). Lots and lots of KDE4-strings were only made translateable very late. And at the same time few new/changed strings still keep appearing left and right on an almost daily basis everytime you look away for a second, mostly in YaST. And I have a feeling that despite all this very hard work, we'll probably end up with a release that's untranslated in lots of prominent places anyway. From the outside the whole process appears very messy. I had quite different expectations for 11.1 when the roadmap was first released with nice long freeze periods, but that's not how it's gone down... I can't say if the reason is the parallel SLE development, upstream immaturity (kde4, gnome-packagekit) , the unusually short release cycle between 11.0 and 11.1, or something entirely different. The main reason is surely the parallel SLE development - at least for the yast changes you see. And a huge impact had the bad quality of the first betas - many testers only tested >= beta4, which of course gives late fixes, when problems are noticed late.
