[opensuse-translation] Translation Update for SLE10 SP1 and Forthcoming openSUSE 10.3
We (Novell Globalization Services [Dublin]) are working on translation updates and several new translations for SLE10 SP1. We will submit these translations to the SLE10SP1 branch of the forge repository at https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n . For SP1, we cannot accept additional translations done but community members. So I'd like to ask you not to touch the SLE10SP1. When the SP1 translations are done, we want to promote them to the trunk of the SVN and thus they will become available for openSUSE 10.3. This will be a strong push for languages such as Arabian, Catalan, some Indian and South African languages. This also mean that you should save your time now to avoid work duplication. You don't want to translate files such as zypper, rug, or zmd twice. Thus far it is undecided, whether we should just add the new translations the trunk or whether we also want to override existing translations with those done in the SLE10SP1 branch. Here is the preliminary SLE10SP1 language list: de German en_?? We (as Aviary.pl) are working on polish translation update for SLE. I've looked through the files and I can not see .po files for evolution, gnome-print-manager and other modules. I suspect You use the original gnome translations for these programs, but this is not a good idea in case of polish (and possibly for other languages) because: - gnome in SLE is patched and original .po files do not contain all strings used in version from SLE - the original gnome translations are often incomplete. So I'm asking You to provide also .po/.pot files also for gnome components patched for SLE. This is especially critical for apps such as evolution, which is one of basic parts of the system. We cannot have it half english half polish... thanks in advance Wadim Dziedzic -- Aviary.pl --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org

This is done via the gnome-patch-translation.pot, it contains all the changes that we do in GNOME on addition of this. So, no worries for this one.

It looks like cooperation with Polish localization team does not work for now :-(. We have full localizated Evolution in our sources but the po file was not commited back to Polish original GNOME translations. You can check the state of Polish localization in openSUSE 10.2. -- Best Regards / S pozdravem, Klára Cihlářová Documentation --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: cihlarov@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 958 190 00 Praha 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org
In case you are wondering, I just created an SLE10 SP2 branch at https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n . For SP2, we cannot accept translations done but community members. So, please do not touch SLE10SP2; it is exclusively maintained by Novell Globalization Services [Dublin]. -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org

For SLE10 we cannot accept community translations. Only 'sk' is kind of special (in case you guys want to work on it); updating 'sk' is also useful for checking and testing. -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org

I see. I think we can do some work for it, because we have PSA factory in Slovakia. I'm also curious which languages will be translated by Novell Globalization Services. Is it more than this group of languages? Czech, German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Chinese. It seems that sk is not included. Regards Ladislav.
