[opensuse-translation] "packages" translation
Hi all, browsing in the svn trunk, I found the "packages" folder containing po files for a subset of languages. The contained strings seem to me to be the description of rpms included in the dvd/live-cd. Are these files used? If yes, should we translate also such files? In french some strings are translated and you can find them in YaST. So, you can translate those files.

Well, making new translation would be a waste of time without previous duscussion with Karl. Yes, but coolo decides in the end what should happen with the packages translations.

The pot files are grouped by importance (the last update happened before 11.3, so the strings may be a bit dusty though - but I can uptodate them if the interest in package translation increases): - Base packages 1 and 2 - GNOME live cd - KDE live cd - DVD packages 1-6 - rest BTW: there is an oldpdb.it.po which carries the old translations. If you have a tool to use a compendium and some luck, you may get some out of it. Well, russian team is already putting some effort in package translations with Transifex, even though we have not discussed it here in ML. So, updating those strings would be useful for us, too.
This updates the POT files and it should work for everyone: sh 50-tools/prepare_split.sh And this will try to merge: sh 50-tools/run_merge.sh It's a bit more tricky as strings move from one POT to another as packages move out or in base system. BTW: there is an oldpdb.it.po which carries the old translations. If you have a tool to use a compendium and some luck, you may get some out of it.
I am not lucky since in oldpdb there are (few) strings in Italian and a lot in English and German. Moreover, almost all Italian strings are wrong. If I have understood correctly, the oldpdb.it.po file is not used (it is as a cache), so I will skip it completely.
