[opensuse-translation] OpenSUSE 10.3 - Second translation round is going to start
ATM, the merge is running for the 2nd translation round. End ot this round is scheduled for next Friday, August 17. I'm inclined to ask for extending this period; please, tell, wether you think more time is required. In LCN, we will see some more zypper updates the next time. Also, update-desktop-files is a candidate for updates. RELEASE-NOTES, as you probably know, will come later. In YaST, we are trying to proofread some modules, so be prepared to solve some more fuzzies. I guess, ftp-server, package management related modules, sshd, and OneClickInstall are candidates. LCN is already merged, yast is still running. Please report problems, as soon as you see something strange. Karl, Yes, please, absolutely. The merging was done on Friday, so we actually started our work on Monday. Holidays is already a difficult period to have volunteers localize, and a weekend during holidays -- well, forget it ;-) So we started on Monday. And we actually have ca. 4 days till Friday. That's not many, if you consider that we're talking about volunteer work. That's even less if -- again -- you take into account the holidays. But even during the normal working period 4 days is not many. Also, please note, that the update was rather a significant one. Around 1,000 strings updated, which account for ca. 9,000 words to work with. In my opinion, this is too many for one week. And we only got the beta1 with first cycle's files on Friday! That's one week after the round finished and on the very day the second one started. We're doing our best to not only translate openSUSE, but to have it translated in the best possible quality. We encourage our users and localizers to QA the translations and to submit bugs. We ask them to download beta1 and install it to help the QA process. If they have a slow Internet connection, we ask Novell Poland to send DVDs by snail mail. And all this takes time. Truth be told, I'll be amazed if Polish localizers started QA before Friday 17th. So yes, please, do postpone the 2nd cycle's deadline. Or arrange for a third one. Or both :-) Localization is an important part of the release process and not some few guys' moaning that we silence by squeezing a week or two into our release schedule. Let us help :-) We do care, seriously ;-) HTH, best regards, Stanisław -- Stanisław Małolepszy Aviary.pl

Hello. It would be nice to have at least weekend for translation. Could be Monday 20.8. 12:00 CEST be a deadline? Thank you. A little additional time surely wouldn't hurt. Summer vacations have conflicted quite a bit with translation from DA point of view. We're not in big trouble. But a few days or a week of extra time would enable us to polish it more. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for all your input! We can extend the deadline by one week, so please try to finish 2nd round translations by Friday, 24th. After 2007-08-24 we probably can only accept bug fixes and stand-alone translations (basically YaST translations that are packaged language by language). For other programs you may depend on the package maintainer, who has to take the risk or not. I'd recommend to update update-desktop-files always with the highest priority because this is very visible (menu system!) and is kind of fragile. We probably will refuse update-desktop-files updates shortly after 2007-08-24. The YaST POTs are now updated and the merge is running. Affected files: packagemanager (finally removed, got already merged or renamed with them some other files) OneClickInstall.pot packager.pot packages-qt.pot packages.pot sshd.pot Later the day, I'm going to update pam-config.pot (again), and, probably, update-desktop-files. -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org
