It would probably be a bad idea to make any changes so close to 12.1 release. So we should wait until after 12.1 release anyway.
Well, if we can prepare something in between, there's no need to wait ;-)
I'm just a bit sceptical if we'll move to git, since I believe this would mean we'd be "forced" to check out everything, and not just our own language.
IMHO git allows to checkout "sub directories", if the administrator of the git-tree defined some.
However svn.opensuse.org still exists. That's where yast lives afaik. I wonder what the mid- to long term plans are for that.
I just can talk about my idea as teamlead of the guys running the svn.opensuse.org service at the moment: as long as our community likes to have it and we are able to provide it (means: hardware and knowledge), there is no plan to close the service. For the hardware: svn.opensuse.org already is a virtual machine, so in the worst case we need someone who is able to host an additional virtual machine on his server. For the knowledge: currently we have enough SVN knowledge inside our team - but even if this changes in the future, I'm sure we will find someone in our community who can take over at least parts of the job (which might already now be an option). The only problem we might face: my team members are very limited with their time - so if you want something new (like the coupling between SVN and OBS), we might not be able to implement this on our own. But if there's someone in the community who can take over the main development part (like for icc.opensuse.org as example), we can surely help wherever we have the knowledge. I hope that helps you with your questions.
