Weblate currently does not handle pot files. It expects, that the developer of the package does mass msgmerge.
This breaks workflow of translators doing work on, say, lokalize, on their local file (which can take days), and then the pot being modified upstream. On upload there would be a conflict.
And what is difference whether it is in git or SVN? When you are offline and you are not the only one working on stuff, you can have conflicts. Only difference I see is that git is quite good at handling those.
Because a translator picks a file and works on it, maybe for days, before submitting it. Other translators are told by the system not to touch that file, ie, it is locked. Finally, the translator submits the po file. No one can submit another po, so there are no conflicts. If the pot was changed meanwhile, there are two methods: a) the translator picks the pot and merges the modifications onto his working copy, and continues working before submitting it. b) he does the merge on the svn server. Notice that it is paramount that a single translator works on a given file all the time, and if possible, year after year, to ensure consistency and quality. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
