I am not a translator, but I guess that having one code, two teams, two opinions and no consensus is not a good solution. Not only for programmers.
But you see, translators here work in the open. If the team is large enough, they have their set of rules and glossaries that they work with. Nobody knows what the paid translators use; often they are good, but their choices often are 90 degrees to the team decisions.
