ATM, the merge is running for the 2nd translation round. End ot this round is scheduled for next Friday, August 17. I'm inclined to ask for extending this period; please, tell, wether you think more time is required.
Karl, Yes, please, absolutely. The merging was done on Friday, so we actually started our work on Monday. Holidays is already a difficult period to have volunteers localize, and a weekend during holidays -- well, forget it ;-) So we started on Monday. And we actually have ca. 4 days till Friday. That's not many, if you consider that we're talking about volunteer work. That's even less if -- again -- you take into account the holidays. But even during the normal working period 4 days is not many. Also, please note, that the update was rather a significant one. Around 1,000 strings updated, which account for ca. 9,000 words to work with. In my opinion, this is too many for one week. And we only got the beta1 with first cycle's files on Friday! That's one week after the round finished and on the very day the second one started. We're doing our best to not only translate openSUSE, but to have it translated in the best possible quality. We encourage our users and localizers to QA the translations and to submit bugs. We ask them to download beta1 and install it to help the QA process. If they have a slow Internet connection, we ask Novell Poland to send DVDs by snail mail. And all this takes time. Truth be told, I'll be amazed if Polish localizers started QA before Friday 17th. So yes, please, do postpone the 2nd cycle's deadline. Or arrange for a third one. Or both :-) Localization is an important part of the release process and not some few guys' moaning that we silence by squeezing a week or two into our release schedule. Let us help :-) We do care, seriously ;-) HTH, best regards, Stanisław -- Stanisław Małolepszy Aviary.pl
