And what is difference whether it is in git or SVN? When you are offline and you are not the only one working on stuff, you can have conflicts. Only difference I see is that git is quite good at handling those.
Because a translator picks a file and works on it, maybe for days, before submitting it. Other translators are told by the system not to touch that file, ie, it is locked.
