Hi everybody, openSUSE 11.1 Beta 6 is official announced now. It is available at http://software.opensuse.org/developer Please have a look at http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs_11.1_dev before you start your installation. Again we ask you to test if new features are working as expected. Those we created a wiki page containing a list of features at http://en.opensuse.org/Testing:Features_11.1 Further information on testing are available at http://en.opensuse.org/Testing I also attached the announcement mail from Zonker. I did an upgrade from Beta5 to RC1, with mixed results. A few weeks ago, I filed a BZ 430284 enumerating a number of problems with the slowness of the installation system. I have just updated that BZ with further quantitative data. I waited 7 minutes for "loading basic drivers" before literally pulling the USB plug and then reinserting it. There were 5 minute delays looking for USB devices, and ieee1394 devices. Overall, it was an agonizingly slow process, but eventually I got my Beta5 system upgraded to RC1 without having to pull/reinsert the USB plug. However, the RC1 system seems to have a network problem - eth0 comes up and I can ping my printer's ethernet port, but can't resolve any addresses, especially 'download.opensuse.org', which makes completion of the installation somewhat problematic. I'll try to work on it as time permits over the weekend. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org

I've had more than a trivial number of "can't find the repository" during updates or installs in Yast2 once the system is up and running. I've just been assuming it was some kind of server-side issue ... they usually work when I retry them. I'm currently doing a network install of RC1 and it seems to be running fine over eth0. However, I am using the closest repository I know of http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/11.1-RC1/repo/oss/ rather than the default. Still, it's taking about 1.5 hours to install all the packages (Gnome desktop).

Hi Bayard,
I did an upgrade from Beta5 to RC1, with mixed results.

This sounds like following problem: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=448807
However, the RC1 system seems to have a network problem - eth0 comes up and I can ping my printer's ethernet port, but can't resolve any addresses, especially 'download.opensuse.org', which makes completion of the installation somewhat problematic. I'll try to work on it as time permits over the weekend.
Do you have just one network interface or more? I found a problem with two NIC's. Best wishes, Holgi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org

I've been testing 11.1 RC1 since yesterday. The US mirrors didn't seem to have it yet, but I got it from one in Germany and everything looked OK. Is beta 6 *different*, or is it the same as RC1???
Looking forward to your feedback.
Thanks, Holgi

If you have Beta6 than something is wrong. There was a problem with some files released too early to ftp.gwdg.de . Try to download and install again from: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution that will make sure that you have real RC1. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org

The LiveCD I got was from ftp.gwdg.de, but it was called RC1, not beta6. Everything seems to be working ... should I re-install anyhow? -- M. Edward (Ed) Borasky ruby-perspectives.blogspot.com/ "A mathematician is a machine for turning coffee into theorems." -- Alfréd Rényi via Paul Erdős

If iso file has correct md5sum that is published in: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1-RC1/iso/ as <your_live_iso_name>.iso.md5 than you really have current RC1. The problem is that the file names are the same, but they have different md5sum. The 11.1-RC1 directory on ftp5.gwdg.de wasn't possible to access right after the error was spotted, so I'm sure that ftp admin promptly reacted, but check with md5sum will make sure that you didn't catch the old one. I just checked openSUSE-11.1-RC1-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso.md5 is the same in: ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/11.1-RC1/iso/ and http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1-RC1/iso/ -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org

It was just a typo by myself. There is not Beta 6 - the corrct name is RC1. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org
