I need to capture images of screwed up framebuffer virtual consoles to attach to a bug that needs filing. Fbgrab is in software search only for 12.3 and older. Trying to install to 13.1 requires old libpng 13.1 doesn't have (14 vs 16). Is there something else I can capture with? Hi Felix, Looks to me that fbgrab is only packaged by individuals in their personal Home projects, and not in any of our 'official' repositories of any kind. My advice would be to contact MargueriteSu ( i@marguerite.su according to https://build.opensuse.org/home?user=MargueriteSu ) and ask them directly as they probably know a lot more about the package -- ------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Brown, QA Engineer Phone +4991174053-361, Fax +4991174053-483 SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuernberg Geschaeftsfuehrer: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendoerffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) ------------------------------------------------------------------- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-testing+owner@opensuse.org

in 13.1: zypper se -sd fbgrab
What I started with (in 13.2) was zypper se -s fbgrab, which returned null. Now zypper se -s fbgrab|fbcat do the same with the following repos configured: # | Alias | Name | Enabled | Refresh --+-----------------------+-----------------------+---------+-------- 1 | KDE3 | KDE3 | Yes | Yes 2 | KDE3NonFree | KDE3NonFree | Yes | Yes 3 | Mozilla | Mozilla | Yes | Yes 4 | MozillaBeta | MozillaBeta | Yes | Yes 5 | MozillaExp | MozillaExp | Yes | No 6 | Non-OSS | Non-OSS | Yes | Yes 7 | OSS | OSS | Yes | Yes 8 | X11XOrg | X11XOrg | Yes | No 9 | homeSubchaserMClatest | homeSubchaserMClatest | Yes | No

Exactly what URL is in your repo file for that? Is that what the mirrors call "utilities"?
which contains both fbcat and fbgrab fbgrab is a shell script which calls fbcat
According to http://software.opensuse.org/package/fbgrab?search_term=fbg and http://freecode.com/projects/fbgrab that statement seems wrong. I looked inside http://fbgrab.monells.se/fbgrab-1.2.tar.gz and saw only 4 files that look like they were made for compiling into a binary. It would have been nice had Googling lead me to fbcat instead of fbgrab.
no need for 12.3 packages
ps: http://software.opensuse.org/search provides the answer "fbgrab"
I went to that URL (before starting the thread) where neither 13.1 nor Factory were (or are) listed, and which is why I tried 12.3. Trying its TW entry never occurred to me, because since TW was only several months old, I've never used or considered any possibility of needing it. My 24/7 system runs Evergreen 11.4, which I'm going to be stuck with as long as https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39949 stays unfixed. My test systems all have 13.1 without TW, and will have Factory in coming weeks or months if they don't already. That said, my OP might better have said only 13.2. I remember having the problem on at least one installation of 13.1 somewhere, sometime, but it isn't occurring on the machine leading up to my search for fbgrab. What I actually needed was a 13.2 solution for 32 bit, which did not show in search results in my web browser. Anyway, now that I know fbgrab is hiding in the fbcat package I have what I needed: http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/Suse/badtty132.png Thanks Patrick! :-) PS: Anyone else using en_US seeing that, extended alphas where box drawing characters belong? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Yes, and somewhat recent. But recent is rather relative/obscure as I have been traveling for ~30 days and attention not normal.
