[opensuse-support] Tumbleweed USA extremely slow mirror?
Hi all I'm trying to pull down the latest Tumbleweed update via zypper -v dup I am getting almost no download speed. Going and looking at US mirrors I see there are almost none. Mirror brain is routing me to one that is seems slow to be useful. This is not my normal situation. Usually DL speed is just fine. As this Tumbleweed update is almost 1.5GB this could take weeks. What am I doing wrong if anything? Steven -- ____________ Apply appropriate technology. Use what works without prejudice. openSUSE is having major mirroring problems atm. my old rubber cup telephone voice modem was this fast :) showing my age -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
Ah. Thanks. OK will I'll put this off. I usually try to stay very up to date and security is based on staying patched among other things. Yea a 300 Baud modem would beat what I saw. ctrl-c was employed to abort. Shows we need two things. Smarter Mirror Brain and more U.S. servers. I saw comments on IRC about the time you posted that there were many problems with mirrors. Not usual. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Living where mirrors are few and far between. I have multiple sets of repos in /etc/zypp/repos.d/. When D.O.O turns to molasses or worse, like today, totally useless, I switch to an alternate set. Today I'm using mostly gwdg.de, 5,000 miles across the Atlantic, but as fast or faster than Atlanta or Provo ever is. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. Because of a database problem, download.o.o currently has to serve all files itsself instead of redirecting to a mirror. Needless to say that poor download.o.o is therefore overloaded and slow. I'd recommend to wait with the Tumbleweed update until we have the database fixed ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz -- In the real world, a technical superior solution which doesn't exist (or is unmaintained) always looses from a hacky but existing or maintained solution ;-) [Jos Poortvliet in opensuse-factory] -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
