[opensuse-support] Bug 1131689 - keepassxc: Recent upgrade makes it unusable due to changing established keybindings
Hi there, in case you feel messed around by the recent update (it was an upgrade actually!) of package "keepassxc", please look at https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1131689 and vote your opinion. Cheers. l8er manfred

Looking. I have one machine using KeePassXC version 2.4.0 from the security repo, not from the update repo. And I have another machine still on 2.3.3 from the same repo. So I have both versions side by side on the same screen (one is remote). I'll copy part of the report so that we can comment here. ]> The reason is that almost all keybindings have changed, leaving ]> the program in a manner which is unusable to all my users! ]> ]> Auto-Type has been "Ctrl-V" since always, now it is "Shift-Ctrl-V"; ]> moving in the search selection window was possible using the cursor ]> Up/Down keys - it's not possible anymore; switching from the search ]> field to the found-list using TAB is no longer possible... What is "Auto-Type"? I have never used it. If you explain maybe I can try. The only keys I use are control+B/C. The rest I didn't memorize and I use the menu or the mouse. On my old version, on the search box, the up/dn keys do nothing, same as in the old version. left-right work. What I notice, is that if I type "bancos" (banks) on the old version I get the list from the "bancos" group, whereas on the new version I get only one entry. It does not seem to find all the results or uses different criteria. On the result window, up/dn work. On the new version, the search box has inside a mini-icon of a computer. If I click there I get a window that closes instantly, so I can not read it. It seems search options. I'm accessing this machine over ssh, later I'll try locally. Moving from the search box to the search result with a tab works, but after several tabs. It is cycling over all the panels, in a different order. It doesn't affect me because I use the mouse for this, but yes, changing the tab order affects users, should not be done unless the previous order was wrong. I agree that a version change should not happen, unless the previous version has bugs that are only solved on the new version. In my case, as I use the security repo, I expect changes to happen. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I just looked for a description on the keepassxc home page, but it doesn't exist there. However, the pre-decessors of keepassxc document the feature; look at https://keepass.info/help/base/autotype.html I like it.
The only keys I use are control+B/C. The rest I didn't memorize and I use the menu or the mouse.
To be honest, I try to avoid moving the arm every now and then and learn the keyboard short-cuts instead.

Strange, up/down definitly doesn't work here.

See above, it really hurts...

Agreed here.

Ah! Yes, it is interesting. Some web pages do not allow to paste the password. This feature emulates typing something, like the password, so perhaps it bypasses that silly protection. (silly because it forces me to display in clear the password in order to see it and type it) Similarly, other places do not allow to paste the email address. Typing an address is more error prone than pasting it. Stupid protections.
The only keys I use are control+B/C. The rest I didn't memorize and I use the menu or the mouse.

Yes, I do, but only on applications I use very often. Like the old editor Word Star. Now, jstar.
On my old version, on the search box, the up/dn keys do nothing, same as in the old version. left-right work.

On the new version, using it directly instead of ssh, up/dn work like this: The first dn jumps to the results window, so that the second dn goes down the list of results. Maybe the desktop type interferes: I use XFCE. Or maybe the version I get from the security repo is slightly different.
On the new version, the search box has inside a mini-icon of a computer. If I click there I get a window that closes instantly, so I can not read it. It seems search options. I'm accessing this machine over ssh, later I'll try locally.
