[opensuse-support] Custom lightdm-greeter options stop working
Dears, As for the subject, after recent updates my custom settings for lightdm-greeter have been reset and I cannot recover it anymore by changing the file: /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf At reboot the greeter keeps with default empty settings. Current lightdm-gtk-greeter is: lightdm-gtk-greeter-2.0.6-1.8.x86_64 Any hints? Thanks and regards, -- Marco Calistri Build: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20201106 Kernel: 5.9.1-1-default (Xfce 4.14)

Have you tried using lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings application? If it doesn't launch try set a static hostname for your user and logout/login. That should do the trick in getting lightdm settings working again and perhaps fixing your config. Cheers, -- Maurizio Galli (m4u9) Xfce Team https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Xfce

Hi Maurizio, Thanks for reply, Yes I do have the greeter settings application which I tried also to change the settings but it doesn't make any effects. I have to specify that I use a dynamic DNS which switch my default localhost into a FQDN but this feature is up since years now, so probably something has changed in the code(?). I will try following your suggestions. Best regards, -- Marco Calistri Build: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20201106 Kernel: 5.9.1-1-default (Xfce 4.14)

Hi Maurizio, I solved the issue by manual editing the conf file, providing the path for the user and background pictures and giving it permission RW for others: sudo chmod 646 /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf I had not had to modify the hostname. So far so good! Cheers, -- Marco Calistri Build: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20201114 Kernel: 5.9.1-2-default (Xfce 4.14)
