[opensuse-support] all sounds gone in 15.1 since last zypper up
No sound at all from smplayer, system, Firefox, SeaMonkey. This is on my primary system. Volume control acts as though I'm getting unmuted sound. Switching speaker cable and speakers didn't help. # inxi -SyI System: Host: 00srv Kernel: 4.12.14-lp151.28.79-default x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: KDE 3 Distro: openSUSE Leap 15.1 Info:...Shell: Bash inxi: 3.1.09 # inxi -Aay Audio: Device-1: Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 00:03.0 chip ID: 8086:0c0c Device-2: Intel 8 Series/C220 Series High Definition Audio vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 00:1b.0 chip ID: 8086:8c20 Sound Server: ALSA v: k4.12.14-lp151.28.79-default http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/SUSE/Leap/alsa-info-msi85-s151a.txt July 2019 (working) http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/SUSE/Leap/alsa-info-msi85-s151b.txt current :( Where to start to fix? -- Evolution as taught in public schools, like religion, is based on faith, not on science. Where to start to fix?

After thinking reproducibility would be slim, and some cogitation, I booted into 15.0/TDE, and SMplayer worked. Then I booted into TW 20201031, tested, and Youtube and KDE3 system sounds worked. I then zypper dup'd, and sounds still worked. I then booted back into 15.1, and still nothing in KDE3, so I logged out and logged into an alternate user, and SMplayer worked, so I started an IceWM session with normal user. SMplayer worked. I logged out of GUI, deleted selected content in ~/.cache/ and ~/.local/share/, logged back in as normal user, and sounds are all back to normal. Apparently problems with ~/.cache/ content after updating isn't unique to Plasma. :P Hopefully, this will make https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1047852 go away too. 🤞 -- Evolution as taught in public schools, like religion, is based on faith, not on science. I have sound, I updated "one day" ago according to "uptime". But I get: Telcontar:~ # inxi -SyI Error 10: Unsupported value: 0 for option: y Check -h for correct parameters.
