Hi list, I just noticed (trying to run 'finger') that my Tumbleweed systems (that's two, ATM 20231226 and 20231225) don't have /var/run/utmp Is this an error/bug, or am I missing something?

Ah, missed that.

Nor did I. Came up during an (off-topic ;^>) discussion in Heise Forum. But I assume that should trigger a bug report that TWs 'finger' still wants to use utmp, yes?

is it worth the bother? cannot remember last time (many many years ago) using "finger". -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet oftc

Well, it is an official TW package, so it should be either in a working state, or removed. Which likely might be fine, too. When I tried it I was well prepared to find it no longer existing ;^>

As utmp was not able to make year 2038 safe, it has been removed. https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/M... Ciao, Marcus
