[opensuse-support] accessing download.opensuse.org via ipv6 does not work
Hi, I have problems updating my openSUSE Tumbleweed installation using zypper, because my dual stack system prefers ipv6 over ipv4 and access over ipv6 does not work: traceroute6 download.opensuse.org traceroute to download.opensuse.org (2620:113:80c0:8::13), 30 hops max, 80 byte packets 1 2003:c8:7f3b:6800:eadf:70ff:fe34:ac7a (2003:c8:7f3b:6800:eadf:70ff:fe34:ac7a) 0.859 ms 0.844 ms 0.796 ms 2 2003:0:8701:2800::1 (2003:0:8701:2800::1) 18.536 ms 18.673 ms 18.417 ms 3 2003:0:1304:802a::1 (2003:0:1304:802a::1) 27.225 ms 26.979 ms 26.760 ms 4 2003:0:1304:802a::2 (2003:0:1304:802a::2) 27.144 ms 26.949 ms 27.334 ms 5 ae2-2001.nbg30.core-backbone.com (2a01:4a0:0:2001::1) 30.033 ms 30.062 ms 29.797 ms 6 2a01:4a0:1338:f0::2 (2a01:4a0:1338:f0::2) 30.497 ms 30.017 ms 29.699 ms 7 * * * 8 * * * ... traceroute never was reliable connectivity indicator. From here it stops at the same host but I can access just fine. bor@bor-Latitude-E5450:~$ ping 2620:113:80c0:8::13 PING 2620:113:80c0:8::13(2620:113:80c0:8::13) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 2620:113:80c0:8::13: icmp_seq=1 ttl=55 time=43.0 ms ^C --- 2620:113:80c0:8::13 ping statistics --- 1 packets transmitted, 1 received, 0% packet loss, time 0ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 43.014/43.014/43.014/0.000 ms bor@bor-Latitude-E5450:~$ ss -6 | grep 8::13 tcp CLOSE-WAIT 1 0 [xxx]:36610 [2620:113:80c0:8::13]:http bor@bor-Latitude-E5450:~$
I can work around this problem by inserting the ipv4 address into /etc/hosts.
Is anyone else seeing this issue? And who or what do I blame?

I did not use only traceroute. zypper timed out, ping (per default via ipv6) timed out. But in the meantime it started working again. So I guess it was only a temporary problem. Thanks for your reply. Hendrik -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
