[opensuse-support] what is "NMI" and why would I get it?
Hi, all -- I sat down this morning to this very interesting message I've never seen before: Message from syslogd@gezebel at Mar 12 06:55:22 ... kernel:[3910964.968746] Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 20 on CPU 0. Message from syslogd@gezebel at Mar 12 06:55:22 ... kernel:[3910964.968747] Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled? Message from syslogd@gezebel at Mar 12 06:55:22 ... kernel:[3910964.968748] Dazed and confused, but trying to continue It looks davidtg@gezebel:~> dmesg | grep 3850877 | wc -l 400 like there are a few things going on this morning, but nothing I can recognize. Attached are the last two events, presuming I'm reading the log correctly. This is on Leap 15.1 with some updates pending (that I'm not going to allow at the moment) but otherwise generally kept up to date. NMI is probably "non-maskable interrupt". An interruption the processor have to cope with that said I have no idea of your problem :-( jdd -- http://dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

It looks
davidtg@gezebel:~> dmesg | grep 3850877 | wc -l 400
What is 3850877? What do you expect to see? I don't see any "NMI" word in your log. I see that error sometimes when returning from hibernate on this laptop, it is random. Sometimes the machine becomes unstable after that, then I reboot. Without a hurry. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS Leap 15.1 x86_64 (Minas Tirith))

[...] I'll see messages like that when I resume from hibernate with inadequate storage available, pretty much every time. Not that I do it often; I use suspend to ram. I know I don't have enough swap to hibernate. Does it occur under other circumstances? Carlos once intimated iirc that large amounts of swap may not be properly utilized. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
