[opensuse-support] Tumbleweed and KVM :"The libvirtd service does not appear to be installed ..."
Hi, I'm trying to get an existing virtual machine running. The procedure worked in Leap 15.2 but I have no success with Tumbleweed. There are two error messages: with libvirt after: systemctl status libvirtd - "Failed to initialize libnetcontrol. Management of interface devices is disabled" and with the Virtual Machine Manager: - "The libvirtd service does not appear to be installed. Install and run the libvirtd service to manage virtualization on this host. A virtualization connection can be manually added via File->Add Connection" I documented what I did below Any advice? libvirtd works for me, both with virt-manager and gnome boxes. ISTR that the libvirt package was split into sub-packages recently. Maybe you're missing some of them? FWIW, here's what I have installed $ rpm -qa libvirt\* libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-core-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-libxl-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-lxc-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-glib-1_0-0-3.0.0-1.3.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-config-network-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-iscsi-direct-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-scsi-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-config-nwfilter-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-rbd-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-disk-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-interface-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-libs-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-client-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-logical-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-mpath-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-gluster-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-nodedev-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-qemu-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-iscsi-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-bash-completion-6.8.0-1.1.noarch libvirt-daemon-driver-secret-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-nwfilter-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-qemu-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-network-6.8.0-1.1.x86_64 Hope this helps, Robert -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Thank's Robert. I compared the packages and some were missing in my Tumbleweed. Adding them via Yast did not help. The error messages stayed. I'll write a bug report.
