The sound - can in most cases be resolved by: pavucontrol. That is the default/native pulse audio config app.
Give pavucontrol a try - hope it helps.

Thanks. I'd tried that and sadly it didn't. Something seems to be blocking all audio devices from working in Skype, though they do work with other apps. I have not used skype in years, but from what I recall, skype, being proprietary, used its own system to access the sound devices. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I have seen it happen to me too. It seems Skype is very sensitive to the fact that other applications got hold of the mic and camera before it, and hence it says that those devices are unavailable, even if the other app has stopped using them. Usually I can get them back by closing the "offending" app. Try closing the browser and/or other applications that may be using those devices, then restart Skype and see if it works. I think it is a bug in Skype, though, because other apps are not so sensitive. Thanks; I tried this, but it makes no difference. What's particularly vexing is that I also have Tumbleweed and Leap 42.3 on this same machine. And skypeforlinux works perfectly well in both of those, but cannot detect any of the webcam (c/w mic) or the speaker system in Leap 15.1, no matter what I do. So I give up. Never mind. I'll be replacing 42.3 with 15.2 in the next few days as my main installation, so here's hoping. -- Robin K Wellington "Harbour City" New Zealand -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
