[opensuse-support] DOSemu crash
Hello everyone: I have installed OpenSuse Tumbleweed. Normally i use dosemu for a program dos writen. I perform the updates from time in time ( 3~4 months) In the last week i upgrades the system and DOSemu stop working. my_pc> dosemu LOWRAM mmap: Invalid Argument I search on internet and all problems are very old of years 2012, 2014 and i was working until december of 2019. I try the following: 1) from: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-msdos/msg01250.html (2010) Disable 'apparmor' completely. Use the kernel boot option 'apparmor=0' to achieve that. (add it to /boot/grub/menu.lst). 2)from https://sourceforge.net/p/dosemu/bugs/398/ (2012) sysctl -w vm.mmap_min_addr=0 The warning disapear, but the dosemu never start and i cant find a log o clue about what is happening. The file .dosemu/boot.log is updates without errors only a warning about vm86 not present. 3) run dosemu as root. the same as 2) but sysctl is not required. I am completely loosed, any clue will be welcome Best Regards Christian echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/mmap_min_addr -- Be Free, Be Linux -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

there was no solution, maybe you should write a bug
the work around was to use dosbox which will work fine for dos emulation and is also in repos for opensuse.

If it is of any use, dosemu works on Leap 15.1 I type "dosemu", and I get a separate new window running msdos. There is also xdosemu and dosemu.bin. I don't know the differences. I don't know if it works beyond doing a "dir". I know not what to do with a dos session today :-} - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. That's it, I have graphical MsDOS games I would like to run, but I don't know if they'd work under dosemu or need a full virtualization environment. Thus I do not know what can be actually used with dosemu. Worperfect 5? - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. well dosbox and/or dosemu is a full virtualization. i have, but i do not remember what dosemulaion i have used, run "pc64" "THE!" ;-)) c64 emulation inside the dosemulation under linux. and this for sure was using graphic. (before i filed a bug to "vice" it was the only c64 emulation who has had working printer support.) now (at least at my last try about 2 years in past) vice was print fine. simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Oh? I'm getting interested. I need to read about it, a howto for dummies. Perhaps there is a ready repository of old applications we can use. Huh.. oh, by the way, the printer support of the dosemulation was not working /was not implemented, i remember there was a inofficial patch for printer support, maybe this is now implemented. have not tested any more, using now for c64 vice. up to now i have had no time to try some of my old dos games :-((( -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, installing the 15.1 kernel on tumbleweed is fine. Only make sure your tumbleweed kernel is not uninstalled, so that you have installed both in parallel, in case something breaks. thanks, -- js suse labs -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

a) better file a bug to opensuse it could related to this system only b) if you have updated only once after working dosemu, you could easily in grub boot menu select the previous kernel. if not, download it and: (from somebody else who wrote me how to do:) ============================================= zypper in kernel-yyyyy-xxxx.rpm That's all. Boot with the new kernel and retest. (The kernel version might be smaller than others, so carefully choose the kernel at GRUB menu.) Maybe you'd better to increase the number of parallel installable kernels by editing /etc/zypp/zypp.conf before installing the new kernel, though. Modify the line "multiversion.kernels" to include more entries, e.g: multiversion.kernels = latest,latest-1,latest-2,latest-3,running Once after testing and confirming whether it's working or not, you can simply delete the new kernel by zypper rm. zypper rm kernel-yyyyyy-xxxx where xxx is the exact version number you want to uninstall. You can see the currently installed kernels by rpm -q kernel-default and copy-and-paste to zypper rm command line above. ================================================= simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
