[opensuse-support] IPEVO camera (uvcvideo) no longer working on Tumbleweed
I have an IPEVO webcam / document camera, which used to work fine on Tumbleweed. Now it no longer does. In dmesg I see the following: [ 7.508511] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device IPEVO Point 2 View (1778:0214) [ 7.508607] uvcvideo: Failed to query (GET_INFO) UVC control 2 on unit 1: -32 (exp. 1). [ 7.509372] uvcvideo: Failed to query (GET_INFO) UVC control 9 on unit 1: -32 (exp. 1). [ 7.511232] uvcvideo: No streaming interface found for terminal 2. [ 7.511237] uvcvideo 1-1.1.4.3.3:1.1: Entity type for entity Extension 4 was not initialized! [ 7.511241] uvcvideo 1-1.1.4.3.3:1.1: Entity type for entity Processing 3 was not initialized! [ 7.511244] uvcvideo 1-1.1.4.3.3:1.1: Entity type for entity Camera 1 was not initialized! [ 7.515543] input: IPEVO Point 2 View: IPEVO Point as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.1/1-1.1.4/1-1.1.4.3/1-1.1.4.3.3/1-1.1.4.3.3:1.1/input/input20 No /dev/video0 or /dev/video is created. The above is with kernel 5.3.12-2-default. Has anyone had similar problems or does anyone know how to solve this? Unfortunately I don't know exactly when (in terms of Tumbleweed versions) this stopped working. -- ============================ Roger Whittaker roger@disruptive.org.uk https://notes.smuvelious.org ============================ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Unfortunately I don't know exactly when (in terms of Tumbleweed versions) this stopped working.
Further to this, I opened http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1159811 I also discovered that if I downgrade the kernel to 5.3.9-1-default while keeping everything else the same (on Tumbleweed 20191221), the camera works, with /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 being created. Is anyone else seeing similar behaviour with generic webcam devices? -- ============================ Roger Whittaker roger@disruptive.org.uk https://notes.smuvelious.org ============================ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

I am not sure that this is your exact scenario, but I am able to use the following webcam devices with kernel 5.3.12-2-default: - UVC 1.00 device Integrated Camera (04f2:b614) - UVC 1.00 device Integrated IR Camera (04f2:b615) - UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:081b) I can't say which is which, but those should map to - 1 regular webcam laptop camera (Lenovo P52) - 1 IR laptop camera (Lenovo P52) - 1 USB-connected logitech webcam Hope this helps, Robert -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for this. The bug report is http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1159811 By reporting this upstream, progress has been made in understanding why certain cameras are failing with recent kernels, and hopefully this will be fixed soon. -- ============================ Roger Whittaker roger@disruptive.org.uk ============================ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Ack, thanks for adding back the link to the bug report. Progress seems to be fast, indeed. Best, Robert -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
