openSUSE Leap 15.3 - hier science unstable: FreeCAD-0.20~pre
Hello all, after upgrading from Leap 15.2 to 15.3 FreeCAD doesn't work anymore either, although it worked fine under 15.2. I have directly applied to the maintainer about this behaviour. I got no reaction. I have FreeCAD newly installed from the following repo: https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/science:/unstable/openSUSE_Leap_1... x86_64/FreeCAD-0.20~pre.1624371179.835e326652-lp153.265.2.x86_64.rpm The program starts without problems. However, when selecting the workbenches (workspaces in FC) the icons are grayed out. If I try to open any file the hourglass is spinning an nothing happens. The program execution seems to hang. It doesn't matter if it worked under 15.2. It is still unstable, so you have to expect that some of the time it will be broken -- especially with a new release of the OS for which it was compiled. Meanwhile, I found that there is a version of FreeCAD in the 15.3 Main Repository, version 0.18.4. Is there something wrong with that version that you cannot use it?

Thanks for your notice. Yes, everyone in the FreeCAD community knows the differences between the provided FreeCAD STABLE and the DEVELOPMENT versions. But that has not been my question. For explanation: In reality the DEVELOPMENT version of FreeCAD is not "pre-alpha" quality as with other programs. The categorization 'unstable' is done by openSUSE. STABLE FreeCAD version have a certain lack of features, because the are not continously developed. So your proposal could NOT be part of the solution. The essential questions are (as above posed): 1) What could be interfering with program execution? 2) Is there a debugger that I could run for a test to get clear which program section makes the segmentation fault?
