SDB:nomodeset: Work Around Graphic Upgrade & Installation Obstacles
I found the thread of the same subject name and tried following the steps while trying to install openSUSE. I'm trying to install openSUSE Tumbleweed (latest version). However it gets stuck at the green loading drivers screen. I'm booting from a USB drive using an ISO I created wit Rufus. I'm trying to do this on a Windows 11 machine that has two SSD drives. One is running Windows, the other I'm trying to install openSUSE. Here are my hardware specs: Motherboard: ASROCK CPU: Intel i5 6th generation RAM: 16GB Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER. Please help.

what video options are presented and which have you chosen? I have to ask as I have not done an install recently but am running Tw on multiple boxes and have several with nvidia cards but have never encountered your problem.

It's stuck on the loading basic drivers black screen. It doesn't go further than that, I don't get the option to select video options.

UEFI installations do not present video options to select from. Options must be provided manually via the initial installation menu by adding whatever is needed to the linu line /after/ striking the E key to get into edit mode. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Do you have a link to that thread?

Why are you using Rufus? :-? Maybe the crosslinking to <https://forums.opensuse.org/t/amd-intel-nvidia-x-graphics-driver-primer-third-edition/148576> caused confusion? -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Did some googling and found that OP's nvidia card is supported by the G05 driver in the nvidia repository and, according to the nouveau site, this driver also supports the card. His Intel Skylake cpu has integrated graphics and is supported by the kernel i915 driver. IMO OP should first try to boot the install using a low resolution (800x600) or failing that, try text mode. This is available by toggling the F3 (video mode) key. After installation, add the nvidia repository and install the GL05 drivers, which should be highlighted. If this does not work . . . The problem may be what is described in this bug report regarding some nvidia cards and the "simpledrm" function added to the kernel. https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1195885 A fix has been added to the driver in the repository, but that is not available during installation. The suggested workaround was to add the following to the boot command: initcall_blacklist=simpledrm_platform_driver_init OP needs to use "E" to enter edit mode and append the above text (preceded by a space) at the end of the "linux . . . " line. That will hopefully enable booting and after installation the GL05 driver can be installed from the repository. At that point OP needs to remove the added line from grub aobe with YaST Boot Loader module. HTH --dg 15.4/Plasma
